SUMMARY:Rare Rebels™: The Human Side of Rare Disease
DESCRIPTION:What if the best way to understand science… is through story? \nJoin us in the Blue Wing for a powerful and deeply human evening with Rare Rebels™\, a storytelling-driven program that brings the lived experience of rare disease into focus through film and conversation. \nRather than beginning with clinical definitions or data\, this program invites audiences into the world of rare disease through personal narratives—revealing the resilience\, uncertainty\, and hope that shape everyday life for patients and families. Through a curated series of short films\, each moment builds on the last\, tracing a journey from individual experience to a broader understanding of the scientific\, medical\, and collaborative systems that drive progress. \nThe evening unfolds as a journey—from individual experience to a broader understanding of the scientific\, medical\, and collaborative systems working to drive progress. These stories illuminate not only the challenges of living with rare diseases\, but also the innovation\, creativity\, and partnership required to advance treatments.\nDesigned to be emotionally engaging\, accessible\, and thought-provoking\, this program welcomes all audiences—whether you are new to rare disease or deeply connected to it. \nBy the end of the evening\, you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of the human stories behind scientific progress—and a clearer sense of how awareness\, empathy\, and collective action can help shape a more connected and compassionate future.

SUMMARY:Fandom is a Science
DESCRIPTION:The Museum of Science invites you to Fandom is a Science\, an evening exploring one of the most universal human experiences—loving a story—through the lens of psychology\, neuroscience\, and creativity. \nWhy do we form deep emotional bonds with fictional characters? What happens in our brains when a story moves us\, breaks us\, or stays with us long after it ends? And how does writing\, sharing\, and reimagining stories become a powerful tool for self-expression and identity? \nThis program brings together voices from across creative and scientific fields to examine fandom not as a niche interest\, but as a window into how we think\, feel\, and connect. Through a moderated conversation and audience exchange\, the evening will explore the neuroscience of emotional attachment\, the creative process behind fan fiction\, and the role of storytelling in shaping identity and community. \nJoin us for a dynamic and participatory event that blends science and storytelling\, inviting you to reflect on the stories you love\, the worlds you inhabit\, and what it means to be a fan.

SUMMARY:West Campus Public Art Tour
DESCRIPTION:Join MIT List Visual Arts Center on a public art walking tour showcasing the MIT Public Art Collection across the west side of campus. \nView select artworks and consider how art and architecture have enhanced MIT’s campus design\, featuring artworks by renowned artists such as Beverly Pepper\, Jaume Plensa\, and Sanford Biggers. \nThis tour begins at MIT’s main entrance at 77 Massachusetts Avenue. \nMany of the public artworks seen on the tour is made possible by the MIT Percent-for-Art Program\, administered by the List Visual Arts Center\, that allocates a portion of the project funds to commission art for each new major renovation or campus construction project. The policy was formally instituted in 1968\, but earlier collaborations between artists and architects can be found on MIT’s campus. \nThis program is free\, but registration is required. \nRegistered attendees will receive an email the day before the tour date if needed to cancel due to weather conditions.

SUMMARY:Poetry Night - Where Science Speaks in Verse
DESCRIPTION:Poetry is coming to the Museum of Science because some of the most profound discoveries begin not in a lab\, but in language. In a year dedicated to revolutionary science\, we are expanding the conversation to explore the intersection of art and inquiry. Emotions like grief\, joy\, wonder\, and love are more than just fleeting experiences; they are biological and neurological realities that shape every decision we make and every connection we form. This summer\, SubSpace presents a unique gathering that examines how two of humanity’s most enduring tools—science and poetry—have always been in a secret conversation with one another\, helping us navigate the deep complexities of the human condition. \nThis special evening offers a space to reflect on how language gives shape to our inner lives and how creativity often illuminates truths that traditional research is still working to define. Boston has long been a city where innovation and culture breathe the same air\, and this event brings that legacy to life in a new\, more poetic way. Whether you are a lover of the arts or a student of the sciences\, you are invited to witness how these two worlds meet to explore what it means to feel and how we find meaning in everyday life. \nJoin us for a night where science speaks in verse and creativity opens new doors to understanding the world around us.
