Join us for a virtual conversation about health justice, equity, and access with CNN commentator Dr. Chris T. Pernell.

Health justice and health equity are tied to access to comprehensive healthcare. Health justice can be achieved through legal and policy solutions that account for all members of a community–recognizing that social identities like race play a large role–and access to healthcare that fits community members’ specific needs. As we continue into the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic, the practice of health justice is increasingly important to consider the wellbeing of everyone in a community.

Dr. Chris T. Pernell is a dynamic physician leader and social change agent. In her public health practice, she focuses on health justice, community-based advocacy, health promotion, and disease prevention. Dr. Pernell is a senior executive in a hospital in Newark, New Jersey, where she oversees a portfolio that includes Population Health, Strategic Planning, Community Affairs, and the Human Experience.

Dr. Pernell graduated from Princeton University and Duke University School of Medicine. She received her Master of Public Health from the Columbia Mailman School of Public Health, and she completed the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health General Preventive Medicine Residency. Dr. Pernell is a fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine and holds an appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School.
